Psoriasis is a fairly common skin disease affecting up to 5 percent of the population. It most commonly appears as red, round lesions on the elbows and knees with a silvery white scale. There are many other forms that look different or are more severe or painful, and it can occasionally affect nearly the entire skin. Psoriasis can cause arthritis in up to 15% of patients. Psoriasis can be a cause of considerable stress and anxiety. Some studies suggest that psoriasis can be a risk factor for heart disease.
Our approach to the medical treatment of psoriasis is very individualized. There is no permanent cure at this time. Psoriasis therapy may consist of topical medications, oral medications, injectable medications, and ultraviolet light therapy. We are able to provide Narrow Band ultraviolet light therapy and PUVA therapy. Our goal is understanding our patients and individualizing their care in order to bring clearing and healing in a safe and efficient manner.
