dry skinNormally, dry skin (xerosis) isn't concerning, and it can be treated with topical lotions and creams. Dry skin can be caused by a dry environment, such as winter weather or excessive bathing. Sometimes, associated itching is the primary problem. There are, however, forms of dry skin that can be related to genetic conditions or metabolic disorders, such as low thyroid function, for example. A dermatology evaluation is helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
